There are three major commandos in the DC Universe… two of them are groups of fighters and one is a fighter unto his own right.. Let’s start with the boys.

Led, perhaps irresponsible so, by Rip Carter, the Boy Commandos charge into battle against the Axis. Alfy, Andre, Brooklyn, Jan, Percy, and Tex served as the Lil’ Rascals of War time from the DC Stable. As you can expect this comic and the group appealed more towards kid readers than regular G.I.’s. The Boys were extremely popular in their day and their comic book appearances outlasted WWII. The Boys appear later on in the DCU here and there, most notable is Brooklyn evolving into hard nosed Metropolis Detective Dan Turpin.

Nothing quite says “hard nosed” like a big red bowler style hat and a guitar case, now does it?

The Creature Commandos were born out of Project M, a top secret government military project to fuse the American soldier with monstrous traits. The original Creatures are:

  • Shrieve, a normal looking soldier.
  • Griffith, a werewolf.
  • Rhodes, a medusa and the group’s only female.
  • Taylor, a frankenstein’s monster.
  • Velcro, a vampire.
