As five Legionnaires lie unconscious and Projectra mourns Karate Kid, Lightning Lass readies to make the landing back on Orando to face the Legion of Super-Villains.
With her husband dead, Projectra screams at the villains to get off her planet. The villains mock her as possibly having gone mad as royals are sometimes want to do.
This is the moment when the cruiser containing Lightning Lass appears and as she comes out of the cruiser to face down the villains, her brother Lightning Lord prevents the other villains from harming her saying that she is now his to slay.
With the electrical fight in full on splendor, Lightning Lass is able to put down her brother Mekt as he rants about the storm having lied to him in his dreams. The rest of the Super-Villains are ready to kill Lightning Lass when most of them pass out due to Element Lad’s reawakening and him changing the oxygen in the air to helium. The remaining five Legionnaires are awake and join a revived Projectra against the remainder of the Legion of Super-Villains.

On the planet Orando, the Legion of Super-Villains has made its new headquarters, easily taking over the medieval world and downing the cruiser of Queen Projectra and Karate Kid upon their return to their homeworld. The so far silent leader of the Legion of Super-Villain twists the Legion flight ring and says something rather cryptic.
“Then let me twist their alarm signal, as I once did as a Legionnaire—and let them come running to their doom.” – Unknown Leader of the LSV…
The Legion fresh from their detour keeping Mordru under wraps leaves the Sorcerer’s World of Xerox and follows the signal only to land in the midst of one of Zymyr’s teleportation warps, only Dawnstar is swift enough to evade the trap as it sucks Ultra Boy, Mon-El, Wildfire, and the Legion Cruiser containing Shadow Lass, Phantom Girl, Timber Wolf, Chameleon Boy, and White Witch.
On Earth, Element Lad rallies the remaining Legionnaires on Earth to the rescue leaving Cosmic Boy on duty on Earth and Invisible Kid II who is mysteriously missing at this point along with his back from the dead counterpart Lyle Norg.
In the dungeons of the Castle Royal of Orando, Light Lass awakens to see Karate Kid and Projectra imprisoned in machines. More >

As we open part two of the Legion of Super-Heroes vs. the Legion of Super-Villains, we see that Light Lass has been placed as a prisoner in a dungeon of some sorts with power dampeners on her arms. Her older brother Lightning Lord comes to pay her a little visit in hopes of recruiting her to the cause of the LSV. It appears that Lightning Lord has gone completely insane as he now says that storms are speaking to him. Light Lass refuses the offer, but Lightning Lord swears that he will obey him or die.
Some of the members of the Legion of Super-Villains starting upper-left corner and moving clockwise: (Spider Girl, Ol-Vir, Micro Lad, Cosmic King, Mist Master, Lazon, Sun Emperor, Radiation Roy, Terrus, Lightning Lord, Silver Slasher, and Terrus).
On M-17W, Lazon, Titania, and Magno Lad are stealing fusion powerspheres for a project that the LSV has planned when they are interrupted by Wildfire and Dawnstar. While the heroes get the villains on the run for a little bit, they are then overpowered when Dawnstar is attacked by Lazon and Wildfire’s suit is compromised when he is distracted.
The Legion gathers its intel and comes to the conclusion that there is More >

The Legion’s stories continue in a four part story featuring two very esoteric characters called Omen and Prophet. The story is my least favorite of the Legion stories that I have read in the original Levitz run, but it does have some interesting art pieces and some twists and turns that pay off later.
As the Legion deals with Prophet foretelling the coming of his Master, Omen, a few other Legionnaires deal with personal matters as we see Colossal Boy taking his new Durlan wife Yera home to meet mom and dad in a revisit of “Guess Who is Coming to Dinner?” Gim reveals to his dad and mom, mom being the President of Earth, that his wife is actually Yera, a Durlan actress.
On their honeymoon, Queen Projectra and Karate Kid are on a honeymoon planet, only to find that Projectra’s cousin Pharoxx is there making trouble for the couple. Karate Kid (King?) and Queen Projectra make short work of the usurping cousin, but before they can do anything with him, he disappears in a space warp. A plot hole to be continued later.
The ending of the Prophet and Omen story brings us another sub plot to be solved later.. Lyle More >

The Legion is debating adding some new members to their ranks with the departure of Projectra and Karate Kid and where else to look but to the Legion Academy, the training ground of many of the members of the Legion.
At this writing the Legion Academy’s student body consists of Shadow Kid, Power Boy, Crystal Kid, Nightwind, Lamprey, Laurel Kent, Comet Queen, Urk, and Magnetic Kid. Since both Shadow Kid and Magnetic Kid duplicate current Legionnaires powers (Shadow Lass and Cosmic Boy) both are ineligible for promotion, the others however are eager for the chance to move up to the big leagues.
Joining the Academy, Invisible Kid II and White Witch appear for a few lessons in how to be a Legionnaire since they were both elected to membership on the fly. Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel stress the need for teamwork which is key in an organization like the Legion. Acknowledging their powers are not the strongest, but they are each pieces of the whole and everyone’s powers, when used properly can be an asset to the Legion. The students soon get a test as a few animals break out of the Metropolis Zoo. The students manage to subdue the creatures, but the egos More >

Before I get started with these two issues, I need to note that Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld makes her debut here in a preview comic in the middle of Legion of Super-Heroes #298. We will get back to Amethyst later, but just rest assured that there is a connection between this sword and sorcery character and the Legion of Super-Heroes, so her debut in this book, does indeed make sense.
As the Legion is on Earth dealing with Cosmic Boy’s family tragedy, Wildfire, Dawnstar, Blok, Invisible Kid II, and the White Witch come upon a mining asteroid very close to where Mon-El and Shadow Lass are vacationing.
Apparently the last UP representative was killed and the Legion has been asked by the UP to determine what happened. The White Witch casts a spell upon the body and determines that someone had apparently crushed his heart, a murder mystery to be solved.
Back on Earth, an enraged Duplicate Boy has interrupted the vacation of Colossal Boy and Shrinking Violet and is throwing down in the Himalayas. Shvaughn Erin alerts the Legion and Element Lad, Phantom Girl, and Ultra Boy respond. Ultra Boy is reminded that he is Deputy Leader now, since Element Lad resigned his post and he More >

The final chapter of the Great Darkness Saga starts with the Legion recovering from the last battle from the Servants of Darkness, and Brainiac Five concludes who they are facing, the dread lord Darkseid. At this news, Dream Girl sounds the general alert summoning the Legion of Substitute Heroes and even Supergirl from the 20th Century.
Out in space near Weber’s World the Heroes of Lallor pick up the Kryptonian Dev-Em and join the Wanderers and the Substitute Heroes at Weber’s World to attempt to stop the brainwashed Daxamites who are now attacking every one they come across.
On Takron-Galtos, Chameleon Boy finds himself hunted by an insane Daxamite child named Ol-Vir. Ol-Vir sweeps the area for Chameleon Boy using X-Ray vision but appears to have no control over his powers. Chameleon Boy manages to borrow a trick from Karate Kid and hurls Ol-Vir into the cell holding Fatal Five member, Validus. Afterwards, Chameleon Boy passes out from the exertion.
A Servant of Darkness in an effort to gain access to the child that was created in the third part of the saga, destroys the spaceship carrying Light Lass, Dream Girl, Sun Boy, Invisible Kid II, Blok, Mon-El, and White Witch. While the Legionnaires are unconscious More >

Sun Boy, Brainiac Five, and Blok fight the Servants of Darkness while Dream Girl holds a newborn baby?
When we last left the Legion they were scattered to four different worlds.
- Takron-Galtos – The United Planet’s Prison Planet – Phantom Girl, Ultra Boy, Mon-El, and Shadow Lass
- Avalon – Where Mordru was imprisoned – Brainiac Five, Star Boy, Element Lad, Timber Wolf, Wildfire, and Dawnstar
- Naltor – Where the LSH stopped the Servants of Darkness from kidnapping Dream Girl’s sister, the White Witch – Sun Boy, Light Lass, Dream Girl, Blok, and Invisible Kid II
- Earth – Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl were attacked by the captured servant but saved from Lightning Lad when he snapped out of his electrical brain fever.
As the Legionnaires on Takron-Galtos leave that world, they miss the shuttle just arriving carrying the now convicted Chameleon Boy who is serving out a sentence for treason.
At the Sorcerer’s World, also known as Xerox, Dream Girl and Element Lad’s teams meet up and Dream Girl officially begins her leadership tenure. The Legion descends down through mystic illusions until they get to real land and meet the Teachers of the Sorcerer’s World.
As Ultra Boy’s team arrives the ship they are in blows apart as one of the More >

In the DCU there are the arch enemies like Lex Luthor, Joker, and Cheetah, mostly these are dark reflections of the heroes that they find conflict with often, however, then there are those baddies who supersede any specific hero/villain relationship and those villains find themselves in conflict with not only heroes but the universe at large. These villains are usually well equipped, long term strategists, and possess overwhelming amounts of power.
It is in this backdrop that we begin to discuss The Great Darkness Saga in the Legion of Super-Heroes.
When last we left our discussion of the Legion, the Legionnaires had been held prisoner in their own headquarters by the villainous C.O.M.P.U.T.O. and in their midst they had elected a new Legionnaire as Jacques Foccart joined the Legion as the second Invisible Kid. Prior to that, Legionnaires Mon-El and Shadow Lass had been called to investigate a planet that had just appeared in United Planets space and no probe had successfully returned from investigating the planet. Mon-El and Shady found out why when they landed and the planet’s defense systems nearly killed them both and it is that “Prologue to Darkness” that serves as the prelude to The Great Darkness Saga.

And the best way to demonstrate how time keeps on slipping is to show some bookends of the DC Universe, shall we? Lets get into our Way Back Machine ™ and head to the distant past.
Anthro, the first boy, is the first cro-magnon born in a tribe of neanderthals. Anthro lives in primitive and dangerous times. Anthro is an accomplished hunter, tracker, and fighter.
Now, on the flip side of Anthro we find….
Kamandi is the Last Boy on Earth, a survivor of atomic war, Kamandi remains the last human in a world where most animals that survived have evolved into these beast-humanoid hybrid forms. These beastmen are fairly intelligent, savage, and able to use tools with ease and Kamandi is almost universally their prey, for it was humans who destroyed the Earth with nuclear fire, not the beasts.
But wait, we have the Legion remember? The shiny future of the Legion happens on Earth too, right? How can Kamandi and the Legion exist in the same timeline?
GOOD QUESTION!!!!
In the future, the timeline is fluid and anything can happen as no path has been set yet. This allows for all sorts of other adventurers as well like….
