Powers

Endowed with powers by the Gods, the powers were best set forth in a comic written by George Perez, of which I pull most of the following information:

Demeter granted Diana “Power and Strength like that of the Earth itself”

Super Durability – Diana is not invulnerable, however she is very difficult to injure.

Super Stamina – Diana seems to have infinite amounts of energy and can fight for days on end without tiring.

Super Strength – Diana is amazingly strong and perhaps the only one stronger on Earth is Superman.

Aphrodite granted Diana “Great Beauty and a Loving Heart”

Attractive – Diana is insanely beautiful and this tends to give her an upper hand when dealing with an inexperienced male combatant.

Compassion – Diana always seeks a peaceful solution to a conflict first, if peace cannot be the first battle lost, then war will be the battle she shall not lose.

Athena granted Diana “Wisdom”

Instinct – Not all wisdom is learned wisdom.  Diana has amazing intuitive gifts and often knows exactly what must be done in certain situations.

Super Intelligence – Diana is schooled in all the ancient classical studies and being from the Ancient Greek era she is especially knowledgeable about philosophy, the arts, democracy, warfare, athletics, martial arts, and a host of other topics.

Artemis granted Diana “The Eye of the Hunter and Unity With the Beasts”

Super Hearing – Diana can detect sounds from a fair amount away and follow the sounds to their source.

Telescopic Vision – Diana has a keen eye and can spot her quarry a fair distance away.

Animal Control – Diana has the ability to command animals, though it is rarely used outside of calming a beast down she has sometimes used this as a combat tactic.

Speak with Animals – Diana can communicate with animals as well as you or I speak with each other.

Hestia granted Diana “Sisterhood with Fire—That it May Open Men’s Hearts to Her”

Immunity to Fire – Diana typically cannot be harmed by mundane fires.

Persuasion – Diana’s words soothe the savage beast as well as men.  She truly can turn a hawk into a dove.

Hermes granted Diana “Speed and the Power of Flight

Flight – Diana is able to escape gravity and travel unimpeded through the air.

Super Speed – Diana can move insanely fast.

Vulnerabilities

Diana has a few vulnerabilities that can be exploited by the proper villainous plot.

Bound By a Man – One of Diana’s older vulnerabilities that has been done away with is that if she were bound by a man she would lose all her strength.  You see this mostly in stories from the 1940s-50s.

Secret Identity – Currently when Diana assumes her civilian identity of Diana Prince, she has access to none of her powers.  A villain who discovers this and exploits it, could very well end Wonder Woman before she begins a counter attack.

Using Her Gifts Against Her – Some of Diana’s greatest gifts can be also interpreted as her Achilles Heel.  Threaten someone Diana cares for and you may gain the upper hand, however you also are playing with fire.

Acrobatics – Diana is a trained gymnast as part of her Amazonian training.
Animals
– Diana’s ability to speak with animals helps a lot when dealing with animals.  She is also an experienced horsewoman.
Artist -
  None noted.
Charisma -
Diana is naturally very attractive and is able to use Persuasion a lot on individuals even without the lasso on them.
Connections – Diana is highly connected with the metahuman community and the U.S. Government.  She has low level connections with the Olympian pantheon and the United Nations.
Detective
– None noted.
Education – Diana has been raised by the finest scholars on Themyscira.  However, this has made her slightly naïve about the “ways of Man’s world” and learning the modern world has its challenges.
Gadgetry
 - None noted.
Martial Artist
– Diana is an extremely accomplished hand-to-hand combatant.
Medicine
– None noted.
Military Science –
Diana’s skill at tactics is immense especially when she is facing an overwhelming force in terms of numbers.
Occultist
 - Diana can sense “old magic” and knows instinctively when the Gods are involved in something.
Scientist
 - None noted.
Survival
– Diana can no doubt survive harsh conditions as a result of her Amazonian training.
Thief
– None noted.
Vehicles
– Normal, plus Diana is an accomplished pilot of aircraft.
Weaponry
– Diana is extremely skilled with most hand-to-hand weaponry of the ancient Greek world.  She has shown proficiency with staff, sword, axe, spear, shield, boomerang, lasso, and knives.  One would assume she knows how to handle most any melee weapon.

Allies -

Donna Troy/Wonder Girl – Teen Titan
Justice League of America – Group Affiliation
Headquarters -

Themyscira, Washington, DC

Pets -

None Noted.

Vehicles –

Invisible Plane or Jet – Diana’s mode of transportation should she need it is an aircraft rendered undetectable by the Gods.  In some instances the Invisible Jet has been an actual tool give to Diana from a grateful alien race.

Weaponry –

Amazon Bracelets – These bracelets are forged from the Aegis, Zeus’ shield and are adept at deflecting most small projectiles, lasers, debris, and other assorted items.

Girdle of Gaea - This girdle around Diana’s waist enhances her strength even further.

Golden Eagle Armor – On occasion of a great battle Diana will fortify herself with this armor meant to evoke an Eagle.  She only does this when she expects that she may not return from a battle.

Golden Lasso of Truth – Forged by Hephaestus, this length of rope is as long as Diana needs it to be at any given time, is unerringly true even if Diana were not a skilled weapons master, and once ensnared, the target must obey Diana’s commands which usually consists of a command to calm themselves and to answer her questions.  The target must truthfully respond to the question that Diana poses, all falsehoods are laid bare by this length of magical rope.

Sandals of Hermes – These sandals enable Diana to instantly go from Man’s World to Themyscira.

Tiara - Diana’s princess tiara is her symbol of station and also is razor sharp and can be thrown as a boomerang.

WeaponsDiana is proficient in many other weapons and will resort to them as the need requires.

Other:

Mental Radio – Diana has sometimes been shown to be able to phone home to Themyscira using a mirror and concentration.

Diana’s soul belonged to a fetus living in a woman of caveman days.  A woman brutally murdered by a tribesman.  Back then, life was extremely harsh and short lived for women, a fact that did not go without notice to the Greek Goddesses.  These Goddesses held onto these souls and petitioned Zeus to let the Goddesses create their own race, a race of women who could be the equal of any man and teach peace to all mankind.  Ares, the God of War, vehemently opposed this plan saying that all man will ever know is war and death.  Zeus retreated from the fight and the remaining Goddesses were forced into action themselves.

Traveling to the Underworld, Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, Hestia, Goddess of the Home and Hearth, Demeter, Goddess of the Fields and the Earth, Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty, and Hermes, Messenger of the Gods found the sacred place in Tartarus reserved for the souls of women who had been struck down by men.  This place is called the Well of Souls.  The Goddesses gave these souls new life as they sprung from the water onto the shores of Greece.  However, one soul was left, Athena told her fellow Goddesses that this particular soul has a special destiny and her time is not yet come.

The leader of this new race, now called Amazons, was named Hippolyta and she co-ruled with her sister Antiope.  Together the Amazons lived their days in peace and tranquility enjoying the gifts the Goddesses had given them and the chance at a new life.

Ares watched all these events from afar and was determined that this new race should be ended, and who better than he to do so?  He sent an enraged Heracles on a labor to steal the girdle from the Amazon Queen.  Heracles met Hippolyta in a field and she bested him.  Surprised by the Queen’s skill in combat, Heracles feigned friendship and said that the Amazons are true and worthy allies.  That night during a celebration Heracles drugged Hippolyta.  When she awoke she was almost naked, in chains, without her girdle, the symbol of her Queen hood, and the victim of Heracles’ sexual appetite.

Athena appeared to Hippolyta and granted her the wish that the Amazons should escape, but they should not engage in base war with these lesser men.  While Hippolyta agreed, it was impossible to sway the other Amazons who went on a bloody campaign that night killing every man in the prison for their vengeance.  Beset by guilt, Hippolyta told Antiope that they must go and wait for Athena’s judgment on the shores of the sea.  Antiope refused to go and she and a band of Amazons left with her creating the first large rift in the Amazon society, this offshoot of Amazons would be known as the Bana-Migdahll Amazons.

Hippolyta and the remaining Amazons went to the sea and a path was made by Poseidon as the Amazons were cast out of Man’s World and were tasked with guarding the entrance to Tartarus, to eternally battle the evil that exists under this island known as Themyscira, ironically named Paradise Island.

Time passed and Hippolyta began to feel an urge, a pull.. something calling to her.  The Oracle of the Amazons, Menaliappe revealed to the Queen the origins of the Amazons and how when Hippolyta was murdered, she had been pregnant.  This feeling was her unborn child calling to her.  Hippolyta went to the shores of Paradise and sculpted from the clay the image of a beautiful baby girl.  The Goddesses seeing this blessed Hippolyta and let the last soul in the Tartarus prison go free to its mother.  Diana of Themyscira was born as the clay turned to flesh and she opened her eyes.

For centuries the Amazons held their place and their peace cut off from mankind, yet there was a pang, something that made the Amazons feel unfulfilled.  They may be warrior women, but they are women, and the need for children was great in some of them.  Hippolyta petitioned the Goddesses for a daughter and this wish was granted as Hippolyta was guided by the Goddesses’ to sculpt a baby out of clay to which the Goddesses gave life and the last soul murdered so very long ago.  Thus, Diana the princess of the Amazons was born.  The Goddesses then appear, along with Hermes, and bless Diana with an array of amazing gifts which eventually become what we would refer to as her powers.

Diana trained day in and day out, aging to adulthood, Diana excelled at athletics, weapons, military strategy, the classical arts, ancient history amongst other various subjects.

One day, Man’s World intruded upon the idyllic Amazons again as Colonel Steven Trevor crashed his fighter jet into the island.  Taken captive by the Amazons it is determined that this is a sign from the Gods that the Amazons are needed once more in the world to fight the scourge of Ares.  A contest is held, a contest to determine the best of the Amazons who will be this emissary to the outside world.  A contest that Hippolyta resolutely refuses to allow Diana to participate.

To prevent any favoritism all the Amazons wear a mask to compete, so Diana dons a mask and joins in the fray.  At the end in a round of the infamous game called Bullets and Bracelets, the Amazons fire a gun towards the winning Amazons so that they may deflect the bullets with their bracelets.  Diana succeeds at this task and steps forward to accept Hippolyta’s blessings.

Of course as Queen of the Amazons, she is proud of Diana for succeeding, as a mother however, she is fearful of what this means for her daughter’s safety.  This is a constant crux in Diana’s life leading to tension with her mother.

Diana wears the garb of a woman who died in World War II, a female fighter pilot.  The red boots with the white stripe, the blue and white starred bottoms, the red battle bodice with the golden eagle/double W breastplate, her Amazon bracelets, her razor sharp tiara, and her golden lasso of truth.  Diana embarks to Man’s World to begin to fight the good fight against the forces of Ares while attempting to teach man the ways of peace and diplomacy.

She is strong.  She is beautiful.  She is Wonder Woman.
