Speedy – Earth-One
The Red Arrow… The Arsenal… The Addict
Roy Harper, Jr. is the son of a forest ranger who died while saving the life of a Navajo Indian named Brave Bow, Brave Bow felt obligated to take in the now orphaned boy and raised him as his son. Roy became quite proficient at the bow and spent his spare time following the adventures of his heroic idol, Green Arrow.
Eventually, Roy’s talents came to the attention of Green Arrow during an archery contest and Roy wound up assisting Green Arrow in apprehending some criminals. After Brave Bow passed away, Green Arrow offered Roy a spot as his sidekick, and with no real direction in sight, Roy took the offer and became Oliver Queen’s ward.
After a while, Roy met and joined the Teen Titans and served with them until the group disbanded the first time. While he had a fairly strong crush on Wonder Girl, Roy had an eye for the ladies and controlled substances.
As Roy’s need for independence from the sidekick role grew, Green Arrow gave him his space, perhaps too much space. Speedy became a heroin addict and was caught by Green Arrow and Green Lantern, however it was up to Black Canary to help Roy through his rehab and get him back on the right path.
Roy semi-retired from hero work and works for the government in the capacity of an espionage agent when we first encounter him, however he does put on his Speedy uniform in order to battle street crime, mostly drug dealers.

Quiver €“ Roy €™s quiver holds at least 30 arrows locked into place. A quick turn and jerk removes the arrow from its space and readies it for firing. This locking mechanism accounts for Ollie not losing arrows out of his quiver all the time.
