Raven

The Daughter of Trigon…

Raven’s mother, Arella, was a troubled youth of the 60s and 70s and eventually found herself accepted in a satanic cult.  Seduced by the very attractive visage shown to her, Arella gave herself to a form and was horrified that after the act was completed turned into a hideous red skinned, antlered, four eyed beast.

Once Arella discovered that she was pregnant she attempted to take her life, but she was interrupted by a bird cloaked figure who transported Arella to another dimension where a race of humanity had developed a pacifist society called Azarath.  There she was taken in by the spiritual leader, Azar, and taught in their people’s peaceful ways.  As Arella gave birth the idyllic world of Azarath changed, the blue skies turned dark and filled with lightning, the air became cold, and all amongst Azar sensed the spawn of Trigon the Terrible had been born.

Upon her birth, this child was named Raven and was taken from her mother and raised by Azar.  The child was trained the utmost of emotional discipline for Trigon is an evil creature and he asserts himself in his children by having the child give into their emotional distress.  Raven learned how to detect the emotions of others, the art of psychic healing, teleportation, and how to separate her soul from her body.

When Azar died, she gave Raven her rings to wear as a reminder of her teachings and Raven left Azarath to find beings who could help her defeat Trigon.  She first came to the Justice League but was turned away when Zatanna discerned the latent evil in the girl.  Bereft, Raven discovered the Titans and asked and in some ways, manipulated the Titans to join in order to battle her father.

Raven struggles daily to keep her father’s evil at bay and the Titans wonder when their friend will rise up and try to kill them.

Raven in her Original Form

Raven cleansed of Trigon’s evil.

Powers

Detect Lie – Raven has the ability to combine her empathy and limited telepathy to discern a person’s true motives.

Empathy – Raven can sense emotions in a radius around her.  In order to avoid being detected by Raven, you would need to remain emotionless, which is much easier said than done.

Healing – Raven can absorb the physical pains of others and heal them psychically.  This process causes her psychic, not physical pain.

Send Omen – Raven has appeared to many of the Titans in dreams, most notably Robin.

Soul Self – Raven’s main weapon in battle is her Soul Self.  Her soul self is a bird like projection that rises from her body.  This projection can absorb almost limitless mass and when it absorbs an opponent it makes the opponent face their fears rendering them unconscious or catatonic.

Telepathy – Raven has a limited ability to read others surface thoughts.  She has sometimes shown the ability to communicate with others through her soul self or her own body, but usually this is done at very close range.

Teleportation – Raven learned how to move her body from point to point via accessing an inter-dimensional point where she can cross thousands of miles instantaneously.  She does not need to see where she is teleporting to, she just needs to know where the place is.

Vulnerabilities

Raven is on the surface a normal human female and she seems more vulnerable to physical damage than her compatriots, however, if Raven’s discipline regarding her emotions fails, she could unleash an evil beyond reckoning.

Demon Spawn - Raven is the half daughter of a demon and as such many other characters aligned with Heaven may attempt to fight or purge her on sight.

Inner Evil - Raven at any time can become a tool of Trigon’s evil.  Her emotional discipline is key for her to resist this from happening.

Skills

Meditation – Raven spends hours upon hours in dark rooms filled with incense meditating in order to keep her father’s evil at bay.

Equipment

Azar’s Rings – These two rings remind Raven of her duty and keep her focused on fighting Trigon’s evil influence.
