Ayla Ranzz is the fraternal twin sister of Lightning Lad, Garth Ranzz, one of the three founders of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Exposed to the Lightning Beasts of Korbal along with Garth and older brother Mekt, Ayla too was imbued with the ability to create electricity.

When her brother Garth was killed by Zaryan the Conqueror, Ayla joined the Legion by disguising herself as her brother.  This worked only for a little bit however as she was exposed by Sun Boy.  The Legion accepted Ayla as Lightning Lass and she became a full fledged member in her own right.

Once Garth was resurrected the Legion had two members with the same powers, which is against the Legion Constitution, but the question did not get answered as to what to do as Dream Girl joined the Legion under a trick to save seven Legionnaires from certain death, including Lightning Lass.

Dream Girl rigged an explosion which caused Ayla’s powers to change from electricity generation to the ability to make objects super-light weight.

Ayla then became Light Lass and stayed on with the Legion, forming a strong attraction to Lone Wolf, the man who would eventually be known as Legionnaire Timber Wolf, including getting Timber Wolf through a rather difficult drug addiction.

Currently, Ayla is feeling her powers are inferior to the other Legionnaires and is having a rather difficult time dealing with Timber Wolf’s apparent betrayal of their love with her sister-in-law.

Powers

As Lightning Lass

Electricity – Ayla can generate and blast out bolts of electricity, mimicking lightning effects.

Energy Absorption – Ayla can absorb electrical energy and refocus it or harmlessly distribute it as long as he does not overload his limits.

As Light Lass

Gravity Reduction – Ayla can reduce the pull of gravity on an object making the object super-light weight causing it to rise.

Vulnerabilities

Ayla has retained her ability to resist electrical attacks throughout her Legion career, especially those from both of her brothers.

Skills

Maternal Instinct – While Ayla does not have any kids, she seems to enjoy taking care of others and being rather domestic for a 30th century woman.  She is frequently cited with designing costumes for her teammates.

Equipment

Legion Flight Ring – All Legionnaires wear a ring which enables them to fly, communicate with each other across the distances of space, call for assistance, or locate other Legionnaires.

Legion Transuit – A transparent spacesuit that activates automatically in the event of a vacuum.
