Hawkwoman – Shayera Hol

Hawkgirl… The Winged Wonder’s Partner in Flight…The Lone Bird… Hawkwoman…

Shayera Hol was a young cadet of the Thanagarian police force when she was assigned to work with seasoned vet Katar Hol.  The two quickly developed a relationship over time and adventures and became lovers, eventually the two would marry.

Traveling to Earth to defend Earth from alien menaces the two alien police officers settled in Midway City and became curators of the Midway Museum as Carter and Sheira Hall.  Introduced to the public as Hawkman and Hawkgirl the pair donned their Thanagarian equipment and fought all sorts of criminals.

While Carter joined the Justice League early on, Sheira could not as the League had a rule against duplicated power sets as well as a limitation on 12 members.  Once that rule was negated by the League Sheira joined the JLA.

Whether the time together or apart had driven a wedge between the Hawks, Shayera needed some time to think about her relationship with Katar and took their Thanagarian ship and set off for parts unknown.  Once she returned she took the name Hawkwoman and rejoined the Justice League most notably during a case in which Hawkman was terribly injured.  Realizing how much she does care for Carter the two were reunited and their love sprung anew.

Powers

Added Stamina:  Shayera does not tire very easily and sometimes appears to have added reserves she taps under extreme circumstances.

Added Swiftness:  While Katar is the strong one, he tends to be slower than his more agile female counterpart.  What Shayera loses in brute strength she makes up for in quick targeted attacks.

Speak With Birds:  Shayera can communicate with all manner of bird animal life.

Telescopic Vision:  With Shayera’s acute vision, she can see her prey from some distance away.

Tough:  Shayera is not invulnerable, but her skin is tough and it takes some degree of effort to damage her in combat.

Vulnerabilities

Like most Thanagarians, Shayera has no real protection from most forms of damage, it may take a little longer, but a laser pistol or an axe will injure him given time and the right moment.

Skills

Historian:  Shayera has an affinity for Archaeology and History, the older the better.

Weapons Master:  Shayera is a master of all weapons from the mundane caveman club through the medieval weapons up to the most advance firearms of the day.  Shayera is not as quick to anger as Katar in battle and is a bit less vicious, however she tends to be quicker than Katar and should not be counted out as unwilling to do what is necessary.  When she carries her shield she uses it to bash opponents as well to block hits and due to her quicker reflexes foes must take her from her blind spot to strike her.

Equipment

Helmet:  Shayera’s helmet serves for protection and as a mask.

Nth Metal:  Shayera’s Belt is lined with the antigravity metal known as Nth Metal.  This metal allows Shayera to escape gravity and form the basis of her power of Flight.

Weapons:  Shayera typically employs a vast array of medieval weaponry, most usually she favors the mace or flail, early on she was typically pictured with a shield in battle.

Wings:  Shayera’s wings allow her to direct her movement while using his Nth Metal belt.  Without the wings, she would simply hover once her momentum has stopped.
