Green Lantern… The Emerald Gladiator… The Patrol Officer of Space Sector 2814…  The Ring Slinger…

Origin

Green Lantern’s story begins as he is working as a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft in Coast City, California.  Hal was a complete hot shot behind the throttle and was viewed as someone who knew no fear by his peers.

One day while Hal was in a simulator a sheath of green energy lashed out from a great distance away and transported Hal to the remote desert where a spacecraft had landed and its occupant is a magenta skinned alien named Abin Sur.  Abin Sur had just enough life in him to transfer his ring and power battery to Hal Jordan before he died from injuries sustained when his craft crashed.

Hal learned over time that the ring was a powerful weapon, able to create shapes, enabled him to fly, and to protect him from outer space.  Hal was soon called for a meeting with his new “bosses”, The Guardians of the Universe.

The Guardians of the Universe are originally from the planet Maltus and then they left for Oa, where one of their own sought out the mysteries of the origin of the universe, which is taboo for anyone to witness.  This Oan, named Krona, unleashed a great evil upon the universe and for his crimes he was reduced to energy to travel the universe harmlessly for an eternity.

As a result of Krona’s treachery and arrogance, the Guardians decided they would police the known universe and first used androids named Manhunters to do so.  They soon realized they needed a sentient being to be their arbiters of all the shades of gray of right and wrong.  So from all the space sectors in the universe they select a sentient being to be a bearer of the Green Lantern ring and power battery, to patrol that part of the universe and to keep peace.

Powers

Hal is a normal human being, although he possesses remarkable will power, without the ring he has no superhuman powers.

Skills

Nerves of Steel - As a result of his daredevil occupation and always facing danger, Hal tends to remain cool as a cucumber in most situations, although he can be riled given the right motivation.

Vehicles – Hal is an accomplished pilot.

Vulnerabilities

As a normal human being, Hal is just as vulnerably as any of us normal humans.

The ring is driven by the wearer’s will power, should their will or ability to concentrate falter, then the ring becomes useless to them.

When Hal is wearing his ring, his only apparently weakness is the ring’s impurity to anything that is the color yellow and that the ring must be fully charged once every 24 hours.  Usually Hal will recite the Green Lantern Oath while he charges his ring, giving the ring enough time to fully charge.

Equipment

Green Lantern Power Battery – Hal’s power battery channels power from the main power battery on Oa so that Hal can recharge his ring when needed.  Hal has kept his power battery in different locations before, most notably in his locker at Ferris Aircraft, in his apartment, and invisibly hovering near him on long missions.

Green Lantern Ring – Hal’s ring is made of a near indestructible alloy that is capable of a great many feats.

• Flight – Green Lanterns are all capable of flight.  They can travel interstellar distances as easily as you or I walk across the street.
• Force Field – Green Lanterns can create shapes to hold criminals or transport people/cargo by surrounding them in green energy.
• Force Shield – Green Lanterns can erect a shield around themselves to protect them from the ravages of the vacuum of outer space.
• Knowledge – The Green Lantern ring can analyze an anomaly, life form, or whatever the GL needs it to scan and come back with a report based upon information back on Oa.
• Make Form – Green Lantern rings can form anything that their user can imagine.  Hal’s specialty tends to be towards fists, bubbles and simple shapes such as scissors, hammers, etc..,
• Translator – Green Lantern’s ring is capable of deciphering language for the Green Lantern so that when someone speaks the Green Lantern hears their language in his native tongue (in this case English) and when Green Lantern speaks, the other language speaker hears what GL says in their own native language.
