The Freaks and Outcasts…

Three freaks united by a loner into a team of true misfits taking on the most bizarre situations in the DC Universe and you have the Doom Patrol.

Beautiful actress, Rita Farr, who found herself ostracized from Hollywood once her ability to increase or shrink her size was revealed.

Race car driver, Cliff Steele, whose body was destroyed in a car crash, had his brain rescued and placed into a robotic body.

Pilot, Larry Trainor, became infused with radiation upon a flightThe ability to defy gravity and move through the air unaided without falling. in the upper atmosphere.   This gave him the ability to separate an energy form from his body, but when he does this, his body is limp and lifeless until the energy being returns.   Larry is forced to wear chemical soaked bandages to keep his radioactivity from effecting others.

Each of them, now outcasts and unsure of their lives at this point, or if they even want to live, are convinced by The Chief, Niles Caulder, one of the foremost scientific minds on the planet to use their powersThe extraordinary abilities that a characterAny sentient entity that appears in a comic book. (Example: Aquaman can telepathically control marine life as one of his powers.) for good, instead of letting those powersThe extraordinary abilities that a characterAny sentient entity that appears in a comic book. (Example: Aquaman can telepathically control marine life as one of his powers.) just define them as freaks.   Caulder who is wheelchair bound serves as an example to the heroes to rise above their limitations.

The Doom Patrol would be joined by Steve Dayton, Mento, whose Mento helmet gave him amazing psychic powersThe extraordinary abilities that a characterAny sentient entity that appears in a comic book. The Doom Patrol fought the bizarre and insane until the day they were blackmailed by their foe General Immortus and they sacrificed themselves to save a fishing village.

Afterwards Dr. Will Magnus recovered Cliff Steele’s brain and put him in a new robotic body and Cliff joined Mento and Beast Boy/Changeling and his new team the New Teen TitansA group of young heroes, typically teenage sidekicks, that have banded together to fight crime and serve as a familyMeant to denote a group of characters that are all interrelated or share the same origins, methodology, or powers. (Example: All Members of the Green Lantern Corps belong to €œthe Lantern family €) unit of a sorts. to hunt down the Brotherhood of Evil and bring them to justice.

Once this mission was complete, Cliff met up with Celsius, Arani Caulder, the Indian-girl bride of The Chief, the new leader of the Doom Patrol had the ability to project fire from her left hand or ice from her right hand.

Celsius had been squirreled away by The Chief, and now she insisted on following in his footsteps.   The New Doom Patrol consisted of Robotman, Celisus and two new members.

Tempest, Joshua Clay, who can fly and project energy bolts and Valentina Vostok of the U.S.S.R., when Larry died, the energy being fled and embedded itself into Valentina and she became Negative Woman.

Together the New Doom Patrol exists to fight the bizarre and to find the original members of the Doom Patrol.
