Doctor Fate

Nabu… The Prince of Order… The Master of Magicks…

Fate’s story begins in Ancient Egypt where Nabu one of the great sorcerers lived and battled ancient evils.  Eventually, even great sorcerers must pass and so did Nabu and his remains were laid to rest in an Egyptian tomb not to be discovered until just prior to World War II.

Kent Nelson’s father Sven was an archaeologist who discovered the Tomb of Nabu and the Helm and Mantle of Nabu, magical vestments which hold the essence of Nabu’s spirit.  When Kent placed the helm upon his head the spirit of Nabu entered his body and possessed him in a way giving Kent access to the ancient magicks that Nabu had used.  Together the two of them became the mysterious Doctor Fate and began to battle the mystic and the mundane.

Kent’s long time love interest would join him in his quest, Inza Kramer and the two would be married and would often retreat to Fate’s headquarters, The Tower of Fate located outside Salem, Massachusetts.  The Tower of Fate is invisible to most who seek it unless they are in need of Doctor Fate’s assistance or one of Fate’s allies.

At one point Kent had absorbed enough of Nabu’s abilities that he was able to perform simpler magicks without Nabu possessing him and wore a half-helm at that time, but Kent would invariably go back to the full helm.

Created By: Gardner Fox & Howard Sherman

Powers

When Kent is wearing the half-helm he possesses the following powers.

Flight - Fate is able to break from Earth’s Gravity and fly as a means of transportation.

Invulnerability – Fate possesses a great deal of invulnerability to damage in battle.

Super Strength – Fate is much stronger than a normal human being.

Vulnerabilities

Kent is a normal human when he is not wearing one of the helms and is able to be attacked.  When Kent is wearing both helms he benefits from a mystic invulnerability.

Skills

Occultist – Fate is aware of many ancient runes, symbols, and has much more than a base knowledge of magicks from throughout the ages.

Equipment

Helmet of Nabu – Nabu’s Helmet allows anyone worthy access to the following sets of powers.

  • Flight
  • Energy Blasts in the form of Ankhs
  • Controlling Fire
  • Controlling Electricity
  • Invisibility
  • Intangibility
  • Invincibility
  • Astral Projection
  • Telepathy
  • Telekinesis
  • Teleportation
  • Mystic Shields

The Helmet of Nabu punishes those unworthy by wiping their minds and leaving them in a drooling catatonic state, so putting on the Helm is a task that should not be taken lightly.

In addition, when you put on the Helmet you may communicate with Nabu himself in your mind space.

Cloak of Destiny – At this point it is unclear what the cloak’s powers are.

Amulet of Anubis – At this point it is unclear what the amulet’s abilities are.

The Tower of Fate – Doctor Fate’s headquarters is a tall square obelisk made out of ancient stone with no apparent entrances.  If Fate allows entrance you could wander for an eternity, or until you die, before coming across food, water, or your destination.  Fate’s tower holds doorways to all fates and all possibilities.
