Crimson Avenger

The Original Mystery Man…

Progressive newspaper publisher Lee Travis saw much wrong with the world, but he only had the power to do a little about it.  Which he did, in exposes and editorials in his paper, however it was not enough.

On the fateful night of the War of the Worlds radio broadcast, men dressed up as martians invaded a masquerade charity ball and held up the attendees.  Lee had dressed up in the costume that would become the Crimson Avenger’s first one, a highway robber.

With his valet Wing driving, Lee Travis hunted down the “aliens” and set things right again.

Donning a mask and a costume that disguised him completely, he was able to strike fear into evil men everywhere and the Crimson Avenger was born.

Crimson Avenger is the first of the wave of “Mystery Men” in the Golden Age of comics to wear a mask.

Crimson Avenger would eventually change his costume to something a bit less scary and gain a sidekick in Wing.  Both of the heroes would go on to join the Seven Soldiers of Victory and would be lost in time for a while until rescued by the JLA and the JSA.

Crimson Avenger and Wing’s new outfits were more in tune with the super-heroing of the times and took away the dark Mystery Man status.
