Commander Steel

The Indestructible Man….

Henry “Hank” Heywood was a lab assistant in college when in 1939 Hitler’s German troops invaded Poland.  Seeing the writing on the wall, Heywood enlisted in the Marines to prepare for the coming conflict.  On base he confronted a few saboteurs but was caught in an explosion which left him with mortal wounds.

His only hope of survival was to volunteer for human guinea pig status with Professor Gilbert Giles, the professor whose lab he used to work in as an assistant.  The special process included several painful surgeries that replaced his bones with steel, his vital organs were replaced as well, and eventually his skin was replaced by a super strong steel mesh dermis replacement.

By virtue of the surgeries, Hank was stronger and faster than any other soldier and practically impervious to harm.  Code named Commander Steel, Hank was dropped behind enemy lines in an effort to kidnap Hitler.  Hank was captured however by Axis forces led by Baron Blitzkrieg and brainwashed in order to assassinate Winston Churchill.  The All-Star Squadron were able to stop Hank and break the conditioning he was under.  Commander Steel joined the All-Star Squadron and became one of its most valuable members.
