The Man In Charge…

Dr. Niles Caulder is one of the smartest men on the planet, specializing in all sorts of scientific fields, the research scientist was hired by a man who would become his life long foe, General Immortus, to create a serum to prolong life.  Niles did not know who his employer was however and once it was revealed that the evil General Immortus would live forever, Niles refused to continue to work.

Immortus had to force Niles to continue using a bomb implanted in Niles’ chest.  Niles devised a way out of it that cost him the use of his legs and forced him to be confined to a wheelchair.  Hoping to prove that others who were also freakish as he was now (by his own definition) were also of use to society he set about finding people how believed their conditions did not warrant super-heroA character that typically acts in a heroic manner. (Example: Wonder Woman €™s deeds of saving Paradise Island from the mythological beasts have made her an Amazonian hero.) status, but instead thought that for the most part that they should be isolated from the rest of normal society.

The Chief found Cliff Steele, Rita Farr, and Larry Trainor who would become Robotman, Elasti-Girl, and Negative Man.  The Chief sought out a way to stop others even more freakish than the new Doom Patrol from taking over the world with their mad schemes.  The Doom Patrol did this successfully until they were apparently killed in an explosion orchestrated by The Chief’s nemesis, General Zahl.
