In Deepest Darkest Africa…
Michael Maxwell left college after claiming honors and went to Africa to become a game warden in Zambesi along with his college friend Rupert Kenboya. Michael’s plane was struck by lightning and crashed into Mt. Kilimanjaro. The two men made their way to a cave for shelter. When drinking the water found in the cave, Michael began to change. He got stronger, bigger, more feral than before. When the Red Ape who lived in the cave returned Michael was able to subdue the creature easily.
The Ape acknowledged Michael as its better and fetched a helmet from inside the cave for him. When the helmet is on Michael could communicate with the ape and learned it called itself Djuba.
