Archaelogist Dan Garrett was on a dig in a tomb in Egypt when he discovered the mysticA term for one who is versed in the magical arts. Blue Beetle Scarab. With the scarab, Dan realized he could help by fighting crime and so he donned a costume and did just that. However, his career was short lived and in rescuing Ted Kord from a cave-in, Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beetle, died.
