Batwoman – Kathy Kane

The Convenient Girlfriend….

Circus operator Kathy Kane decided that she would give Batman a run for his money in the crime fighting arena and so embarked the career of Batwoman.

Dr. Frederic Wertham’s infamous book “Seduction of the Innocent” exposed comic books as one of the great ills of society causing juvenile delinquency.  In this book, Wertham accused DC of pedaling Batman and Robin as a homosexual couple since no women were present in either’s lives.

DC had to think and quickly Batwoman was created, a minimal origin and a decidedly feminine heroine emerged.  Once the newly introduced Batgirl (no hyphen) was introduced in the 1960′s TV show Batman, Batwoman and Bat-Girl were shuffled off into comic book limbo.

In the 70s Batwoman enjoyed a very brief escape from limbo, before she was killed by the League of Assassins and Bronze Tiger.
