Arthur Curry is the son of lighthouse keeper Tom Curry and a woman named Atlanna.  Unbeknown to Tom, Atlanna is from famed Atlantis and is in line for the royal throne.  Arthur began to realize at a very young age that he had extraordinary powers.  He could breathe underwater and he could command sea life.  Arthur’s mother died when he was just a child, but she revealed to Arthur that she was from Atlantis and had been forcibly exiled.  Arthur’s father then passed away a few years later and Arthur was alone.

Arthur began to become an adventurer assisting men and sea alike and trying to find balance in his mixed heritage.  Aquaman as he had become called by the local press met another outcast of Atlantis named Garth.  Garth became Arthur’s sidekick as Aqualad and they had many adventures throughout the seas.

Arthur eventually discovered that he was King of Atlantis and formed a long standing friendship with Atlantean advisor Vulko while keeping the kingdom safe from menaces like Black Manta and Ocean Master.

Love called in the form of Mera, a beautiful underwater Princess from another dimension with the ability to mold water to her will and create hard water forms.  Mera and Arthur eventually would marry and have a son.  A son who would be killed by Aquaman’s foe Black Manta.  This drives a wedge between Arthur and Mera and the couple have had their highs and lows ever since.
