It wasn’t just the covers, I found the stories getting progressingly weaker and weaker. I dropped the title for awhile, then picked up all the back issues years later. Reading them became a slog. And the only character that seemed to shine was Cyborg. Maybe this is where Geoff Jofns started his man crush?

I never found DC’s humour books funny for decades. Sugar and Spice and Inferior Five actually bored me. But in the 80′s!! From Ambush Bug to ‘Mazing Man, that was the decade. DC’s comedy now is anything written by Liefeld.

*Loved* these JLA/JSA cross-overs! It’s no wonder that DC did them year after year after year. They were total fun. I didn’t start to read them until after they were an annual event, but I’ve been able to read all those early stories thanks to DC’s Crisis on Multiple Earths trades. Now if only they would put out one or two more to finish off the series!

Hey Darren!
You make a great case for Martian Manhunter being the first example of the multiverse. I know that there are folks out there that consider his first appearance to be the beginning of the silver age (as opposed to Barry Allen Flash) and there’s nothing more silver-agey than all those multiversal cross-overs.

As for Kamandi… yeah! Let’s totally put him on his own earth. Earth-K for Kirby.
