As we begin our next little jaunt through some Legion tales, the theme is exiles.  A lot of the team is disconnected and trying to make their way back home it seems, and this thread runs through the Legion from this point on of Legionnaires being “lost”.

The first vignette features Lightning Lass who was warped to the evil Zymyr’s home planet laboratory where the alien in the methane bubble insists upon experimenting upon her and her older brother Lightning Lord.  We get the flashbacks of Lightning Lass’ career and how the three Ranzz siblings acquired their electrical powers on the planet of Korbal, how when Lightning Lad died Ayla went and joined the Legion as a miraculously brought back to life Lightning Lad, until Sun Boy pointed out she had no adam’s apple, and we see Lightning Lass become Light Lass in an accident rigged by Dream Girl.  Light Lass falls in love with the solo hero Lone Wolf, helps him through his humanity issues and his drug addiction and eventually breaks off the relationship when Timber Wolf will not leave the Legion for her.

Through it all, Ayla becomes a stronger heroine and one who blackmails Zymyr to send both her and her evil brother back to Winath, where Ayla again subdues Lightning Lord and remands him to custody.  She then leaves the idyllic farm world of Winath and returns to the Legion as Lightning Lass.

Meanwhile in Tales of the LSH #320 (remember, these stories are happening simultaneously for the Legion), Dream Girl and Star Boy confront the thief Magpie who is infiltrating Legion headquarters on a mission for the mysterious Monitor… remember this name, it is going to be very important in the coming months on this blog.

Magpie manages to get away from the Legionnaires and moves on into Legion villain obscurity, but the Monitor has the data he needs to move on with the next phase in his plans.

The Legionnaires are not content with hoping that their missing Legionnaires can find their way home so Brainiac Five has been conducting experiments on Dawnstar to augment her powers.  Believing her powers to now be sufficient the two of them set off to find the missing Legionnaires, only to find a mystical world and a man named Jhodan who would become a rival for Dawnstar’s love.

Dawnstar is not having a very good day.

As Brainiac Five tries to find a way to get back to civilization, Dawnstar seems to be reverting to a very tribal way of life.

And when one is away from one’s loved one for so long, especially when this new loved one actually is flesh and blood and not a bag of anti-energy, can anyone really blame Dawny for straying just a little bit?

Of course in this type of society where Manna literally falls from the heavens. a woman with wings is just a hop, skip, and a jump to deity status, making Brainiac 5′s logic seem “of the devil”.   All in all the Legionnaires manage to leave the Exile world with still no closer to finding the missing Legionnaires.

Next Up:  Where ARE the Missing Legionnaires?  We finally answer that question!
