We find ourselves back in the far reaches of distant space where many more adventurers were roaming through the galaxy doing daring do.  Amongst them, we have some good ideas and a few wacky ones as well.  Lets get to it.

From Left to Right:  Pakrat, Tempest, Dart, Morphea, Babe, and Martin Champion

Atari was big in the 1980s, okay not big, they were HUGE, and out of the home console gaming craze (it’ll never last…) stories came and here comes Atari Force.  In the future, when Earth is ravaged, a select group from the Atari Foundation goes into the multiverse to look for another suitable home for humanity.  Once they find a place they settle and begin to rebuild their lives on New Earth.

Many years pass and the Atari Force has to be reformed mostly with the children of the original members along with several alien members to take down a villain named the Dark Destroyer.  Martin Champion is the only member of both groups along with his son Christopher Champion or Tempest who can zip between universes in the multiverse, a mercenary named Dart, a large blue skinned creature named Babe who is very congenial, a thief named Pakrat who is a coward to the core, a green skinned psychiatrist named Morphea, and Taz, the surviving member of a warrior race.

Chris KL-99 is one of two heroes (we’ll talk about the other one later) who fills the role of do good kid in outer space.  Chris (named after Christopher Columbus) was the first child born in outer space and after his parents disappeared (abandonment issues much?), he went on to be the best Space Academy student ever, with a rating of 99 out of 100.

Chris had many adventures along the way in his space ship The Pioneer while he searched endlessly to find his parents.

Jemm, Son of Saturn is a tale that strangely tends to mirror the Martian Manhunter.  Both are aliens from their home planets, both of them have psychic powers, both of them have vibrant skin coloring, both of their planets are victims of racial hatred and both of them are vulnerable to fire. Jemm was born into this world with a strange birthstone embedded into his forehead which made him the possible savior of Saturn according to holy texts.

Before Jemm had the opportunity to bring peace to Saturn, the entire planets population was wiped out in a nuclear war, Jemm was raised by his mom and his teacher and once they passed away, Jemm came to Earth.  Used as a pawn by the survivors of the Saturnian war, Jemm the savior is now disliked by both sides, making his job of savior all the more difficult.

The Knights of the Galaxy are a group of space heroes in the 25th Century who are basically the space police, helping folks out and assisting where ever there is trouble.

Apparently, female members of the Knights do not need to wear protective gear in outer space.  You have to love artistic license.

Space Ranger, another police officer in outer space…. (seeing a trend here?)  Space Ranger is Rick Starr and is one of the more stable space characters and had many adventures.  He is an experienced law man and has had many adventures over the years.  An expert pilot of space craft, marksman with many weapons, and a great hand-to-hand combatant.

Spanner’s Galaxy, I have to be honest, I haven’t read any of them, but cool outfit on Spanner there right?  Kind of like Adam Ant meets Buck Rogers.  Spanner is a wanted man who very easily outwits the local space police (obviously not where Space Ranger hangs out) and so the inhabitants begin to refer to their stretch of cosmos as Spanner’s Galaxy.

Eventually, Spanner’s bad reputation is cleared up as he manages to save the entire galaxy from someone who wanted to generate a black hole.  Bad guy makes good.. way to go Han Solo!

Time for some star stuff… there’s Star Hawkins above who is a private eye in space.  Along with his faithful robot Ilda, Star managed to solve many cases and build quite a reputation for himself.

The Star Hunters are a group of freedom fighters in 2150 A.D. on an Earth not related to our normal continuity, much like Atari Force, where they struggled to bring peace to a ravaged Earth.

The Star Rovers are Homer, Karel, and Rick who solved problems in outer space.  Woo!  Okay, enough of this stuff..  We seem to just keep repeating the theme of the post-sputnik era of comics, replacing those Western heroes with Space heroes.  I’m feeling a Toy Story marathon coming on…

Next Up:  We bring in some kids and some wibbly wobbly timey wimey…. Anthro!  Tommy Tomorrow!  Kamandi!  Atomic Knight! and Rip Hunter, Time Master!
