Sorry I have been away for a while. Been distracted by real life, so blogging took a back seat.

I know.. a blogger.. who for the most part doesn’t blog about himself. Eh.. think of me as more informative than revealing for now.

As Casey Kasem would say, “On with the countdown”

Inspired by The Dirty Dozen, Ben Hunter, leads a team of soldiers with nothing to lose as they will go right back to prison if they don’t die first! Each of them has their own special abilities to contribute and yes, they included a woman even. Not what you would call a very traditional troop of disciplined soldiers, and certainly not up to Sgt. Rock’s tough standards, but sometimes you need some morally challenged individuals to do the dirty work. They are Hunter’s Hellcats.

Gravedigger, a.k.a. Ulysses Hazard, was a man who survived childhood polio and conditioned himself to physical perfection, without a super-soldier formula, and he wanted to be a soldier in WWII, but he was relegated to segregated platoons with menial jobs, like digging graves for the dead. After discovering a friend of his had been killed in action, Ulysses had enough and went A.W.O.L. He arrives back at the Pentagon demanding a larger role in the Army in the racially biased time. The powers-that-be do not integrate Ulysses, they make him a one man platoon, and I am sure some of this motivation was to see if the Axis would take care of the uppity “boy” or not. Gravedigger serves honorably throughout WWII and appears to survive the war. I would love to see this character revamped as a gay soldier demanding to be in the Army despite Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

Yes, he’s a G.I. and a Robot. There are no words here folks. And yes, he’s fighting a Dinosaur and a Giant Ape. Throw in a Ninja and a Pirate and you have comic book heaven. The Jungle Assault Killer Experiment or J.A.K.E., the G.I. Robot fought bravely and lost his life only to have his creators at Project M create J.A.K.E. II to put him on more missions. One can theorize that the government can keep improving the J.A.K.E. model from here on out. Hmmm. And they did.

We leave the war arena now and head back to more traditional guest-stars in our comics.
